Pere Portabella received the MIKELDI DE HONOR in the 49th International Documentary and Short Film Festival in Bilbao.

Die Stille vor Bach also won the Special Jury Award in the 45th  Gijón International Film Festival.

 

 
 

Portabella Premiers at the MoMA:

The New York museum is holding a retrospective exhibit to celebrate the premier of his latest film “Die Stille vor Bach”.

The movie director, Pere Portabella, will finally, at the age of 77 be able to attend the premier of his film Die Stille vor Bach (The Silence Before Bach), in the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York.  Thirty-five years ago, in 1972, he had the opportunity to premier his film Vampir-Cuadecuc but Franco’s government cancelled his passport:  on the 26th of September he will have his revenge with the retrospective exhibit in the museum in New York.

Pere Portabela, City of Barcelona 2007 award

The Barcelona City Hall has announced that the City of Barcelona 2007 Award for audiovisual work has been unanimously given to Mr. Pere Portabella for his film Die Stille vor Bach (The Silence Before Bach).

Portabella vindicates radicalism in Venice

In a festival characterized by the presence of hollywood-type productions, the two Catalan productions screened yesterday at the Lido, vindicated  a cinema of simplicity and aesthetic radicalness.  José L. Guerín presented  En la ciudad de Sylvia (Sylvia’s City), a film about the masculine search for the eternal feminine, that disconcerted audiences and gained followers after the first two showings.

Portabella, Bach and the Sound of Silence

The Catalan director asks himself about the composer and cinema in a film presented at the Venice Film Festival.

A white screen is the beginning of The Silence Before Bach, the light that cinema is made of, the screen awaiting colors, the music score without notes.  Pere Portabella’s new film, presented yesterday in Venice outside the competition, orchestrates questions, presents suggestive images, a sense of humor and magic, demonstrating that the freshest, youngest cinema in this festival comes to us from veterans like the Catalan filmaker or the one hundred year old Manoel de Oliveira that Portabella so much admires.
